On Sunday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described asset market corrections as healthy and suggested a greater tolerance for pain before policy support is enacted. Bessent stated, ’I’ve been in the investment business for 35 years, and I can tell you that corrections are healthy, they are normal.’ He further added that he is not worried about the markets and believes that with good tax policy, deregulation, and energy security, the markets will perform well in the long term. This view contradicts popular belief that the Trump administration will quickly intervene to stabilize markets affected by policy moves, such as trade tariffs.
